Cabinet Care And Cleaning

Tips For Cabinet Care And Cleaning

Your cabinets may accumulate dust or get stained by an oil spill over a period of time. Regular cleaning and maintenance can help to preserve their beauty and functionality. However, the cleaning process may differ depending upon the material of the cabinets.

Here are some tips to assist you in taking care of the cabinets –

Melamine Cabinets

To clean these cabinets, mix a spoon of dish washing soap in warm water and soak a cloth in it. Use this cloth gently to remove minor stains and dust from the cabinets. Care should be taken that the cloth does not lead in streaking. Remember to instantly wipe the wet cabinets with a dry cloth.

Wooden Cabinets

Cabinets made of hardwood require proper attention and care. In order to clean them, you can use a micro-fiber cloth soaked in a mixture of warm water and mild detergent soap. Do not let the water stay on the cabinets and immediately dry it using an absorbent cloth.  Be cautious about hanging the wet cloth over the wooden cabinets, as the water may seep into the wood and damage it.

Stainless Steel Cabinets

For these cabinets, you can use cleaning solutions available in the market. You can either soak a soft cloth in the solution or spray the cleaning agent directly over the cabinets. The cleanser can then be left on the cabinets for a while and wiped off using a clean cloth.

Everyday Cabinet Care

Remove the liquid spill immediately as they occur. Areas around your sink and dishwasher may need to be cleaned frequently. To maintain the quality of the cabinets, do not forget to perform regular dusting and get your cabinets polished after every six to eight months.

Cleaning Products To Avoid

  • Use of harsh detergents or coarse cleaning products such as tub and sink cleansers, steel wool or self-polishing waxes. These materials may lead to scratch marks on the cabinets.
  • Solvent-based or petroleum-based products such as mineral spirits, nail-polish removers or paint thinners.
  • Ammonia containing products have bleaching properties, which may affect the quality and shine of your cabinets
Silicon based cleaning waxing or polishing products.
